Join The Grizzly!

Do you want to get more involved on campus? Do you want to connect with interesting individuals you may not get to interact with normally? Do you want to write articles for a newspaper we aren’t sure anyone actually reads?
That last part is not the most enticing selling point, but The Grizzly has opportunities for students during the 2026-27 academic year. All editorial positions are open for applications until April 15th, while other staff positions require no applications. The Grizzly provides an opportunity for students to cover the happenings of Ursinus while fitting into one’s schedule.
Since the Ursinus Weekly rebranded in 1978, The Grizzly newspaper has been Ursinus’s main publication outlet for students. Students do not need to major in a writing-centric discipline to be involved; some recent Grizzly editors were Chemistry, Astrophysics, and Math majors. The only prerequisite for joining The Grizzly is to communicate with others. Anyone who wants to write or photograph for The Grizzly can do so for any of the sections: News, Features, Opinions, or Sports. Additionally, there are opportunities to have website-only content for every section.
If you want to be a full-fledged team member, you can also earn credit for it. Students who register for the course can get one credit per five articles written or taking around 15 photographs across a semester. Section editors can earn an additional credit for their work. Additionally, some majors, like creative writing, require students to get a credit from either The Grizzly or The Lantern.
Contrary to popular belief, The Grizzly is not time-intensive or serious as one might think; for the latter, it’s quite the opposite. Students do not need to sign up for the credit or write a minimum number of articles; if there is a topic you want to cover, or find that The Grizzly is not for you, there is no obligation to continue. Students can attend pitch meetings— the meetings to decide on the week’s topics—held on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM, unless stated otherwise.
If there are any questions, students can reach out to any of the editors found on the website or the Grizzly email at grizzly@ursinus.edu.
