On Sunday April 13th, The Hidden Opponent Organization of Ursinus College hosted its 3rd annual Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention! With 126 members of both the Ursinus and local community in attendance, a total of $9,141 was raised in donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Donations to AFSP result in research funding, program hosting, and other opportunities to raise awareness in the fight against suicide.

The Out of the Darkness Walks occur nationwide through the AFSP, bringing together friends and families in support of their mission. “In our Community, Campus and Overnight Walks, those affected by suicide – and those who support them – raise awareness and much-needed funds, strongly sending the message that suicide can be prevented, and that no one is alone,” details the AFSP webpage.

Ursinus College works to provide countless resources for its community, especially during this time of Collegiate Recovery Week. The Health Promotion Office offers support and events all throughout this week, something to keep an eye out for! The Hidden Opponent and the Health Promotion Office encourage students to look at AFSP’s resources, which can be found at www. afsp.org/resources. Thanks to everyone who joined the walk this year, and we hope to see you next year!
