Alcohol Policy Revision Causes Uproar Sept 21 1979
“Students at Ursinus returned to a new school year to discover a number of revisions or ‘clarifications’ had been made to the school alcohol policy. … First, there may be no written advertisements of any campus party. Also, party-sponsoring organizations are now prohibited from setting up a table in Wismer Hall for the sale of tickets. … [President Richter] speculated about the possibility of an addition onto the planned Ritter Center for Performing Arts. This addition would be for the purpose of student activities, but funds would be needed for such a project. When asked how soon such a building would be built, Richter replied,. ‘As soon as I can get $200,000’”
The more things change, the more they stay the same, huh?
Equipment Stolen From New Ritter Center Sept 26 1980
“A case of major theft occurred on campus at the new Ritter Center for Performing Arts last weekend. According to Nelson Williams, Business Manager of the College, two very expensive pieces of electronic equipment were stolen: a lighting console and a TV monitor. … There is currently a rash of petty and major thefts going on in the New Men’s Dormitory. David L. Rebuke, Associate Dean of Students, feels that the atmosphere and rule location of the school fosters a false sense of security in the students.”
Man, I thought we came up with the devious lick.
Allocate Athletics Fund Sept 27 1985
“As a student-athlete I would like to know why the school spends so much money on a lOSing football team while teams with winning records do not reap the benefits. How about some recognition? How many of you know which team had the best record? The men’s swim team had a 10-1 record, the best ever and the best in the school last year. Many of those meets came down to the last relay, so it’s not like we swam easy teams.”
I literally said the same thing last week.
Ursinus Represented at Miss America Pageant Sept 20 1994
“The world watched Saturday as Kirstin Border, an Ursinus graduate, displayed her talents and beauty at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. Although Miss Alabama won the competition, Border represented her state well. … Border, 24, graduated from Ursinus in 1992. She was a history major with an anthropology/sociology minor. She is now a graduate student in sociology at the University of Western Maryland. While at UC, Border played field hockey and lacrosse. She was also a member of Omega Chi sorority.”

Where are You Going to Get your Financial Aid Now Sept 22 1998
“The federal aid that you are getting as of right now might change drastically for the worse if republicans have their way. They have cleared a measure through the House in favor of ending 31 federal education programs so that instead we can send money directly to the states. This measure is supposed to give states, school districts, and families more control over how federal education money is spent. … This is not good news, especially since here at Ursinus, the tuition is now over $24,000. Many people are struggling to pay for school now even with federal help and the thought that it could get worse is not promising.”
I’m not even going to say anything.
Are Reimert residents overcharged for damages? Sept 26 2000
“Everyone has seen the yellow flyers taped to doors, detailing the $50.00 charge for each flowering plant that dies but no matter how careful Reimert residents are, these plants are going to die. Be it with footfalls, the first frost or a lack of water, these annuals will not survive. But the real question is: Should you be charged $50.00 because the weather got to cold? … The Residence Housing Association views these plants as an investment into “the beautification” of Reimert. The $50.00 fine is a lot of money, especially for a plant that won’t survive long anyway. However, plants do release oxygen into the air and thus increase the air quality of smoky Reimert, not to mention changing the desolate image of the former ‘dirt garden.’”
Flowering plants? Pfft, now we have beer cans… beer cans… and more beer cans.
