Campus Squirrels Pack Up For the Holidays

Thanksgiving lasted an entire month for the campus squirrels, who were thankful for all of the smashed pumpkins following Halloweekend. From making shelters out of these pumpkins, to straight up snacking on them, the squirrels were well taken care of during the month of November. With a month-long winter break approaching, the squirrels face a downtime without any intervention from students, or faculty. And this poses a problem.

“What are the squirrels going to eat?” asked a concerned Maddie Aulisio, who’s been fascinated by the campus squirrels all year. The squirrels and their campus-wide antics have caught the attention of many throughout the year thus far.

“Ursinus squirrels are so silly, I love them, they make me happy,” said an anonymous YikYak user, whose post gained an astounding 100 upvotes. Within this thread was a series of campus squirrel moments, and photos, including squirrels in Bomberger and Olin, and some that feasted on the likes of Rice Krispies.

“Saw a squirrel carrying around a chunk of what looked like a blueberry muffin… hell yeah little man you get that sweet treat,” said one user.

The campus-wide support for these squirrels is certainly striking, but without the campus around for the upcoming holidays, how will these squirrels get by?

“I tried stocking up on goodies following Bearsgiving, but I don’t know where the squirrels reside… they’re everywhere,” joked Emily Taylor. “No matter where you are, whether it is walking down the main path, or to the C-Store at night, they’re always around, doing their squirrely things.”

The C-Store sparked an idea to save the squirrels for the holidays. “I’ll give them my QR code, and they can walk in if they’re hungry. That is – if it’s ever stocked,” said Liam Johnston.

Whether the squirrels have enough food, or pumpkins, to last them come January, the students of Ursinus are certainly caring of the squirrels that inhabit their campus. However you may celebrate the holidays this December, the squirrels are around to spread campus joy for your final stretch in the semester, and into your well-deserved winter breaks.
