Gymnastics Looks To Finish Strong!!

Ursinus gymnastics celebrated their senior day in style this past weekend, with a strong showing at home against West Chester, William & Mary, and Bridgeport. Ursinus put on a strong showing against a competitive field, facing off against both a D2 program in West Chester and one of the top D3 programs in William & Mary.

Leading the way for the Bears was gymnast Erin Roe ‘27, who has built on an incredible freshman season to stand out in her sophomore year. Roe has continued to be strong on the vault all season, as she was a year ago when she broke the schools’ record with a 9.825 at Temple. But she has found strengths all across the floor, scoring 9.725 on the beam and 37.625 on the all-around this past weekend. Roe should be at the forefront of the NCGA East region once again this year, looking to punch her ticket to Championships.

Kylie Ruggiero ‘26 has continued to impress for the Bears as well, coming off a breakout sophomore season in which she qualified for NCGA championships. Ruggiero placed second in the team’s individual meet against West Chester with a season-high 9.675 on the bars, the closest she’d been to her school record 9.825 from East regionals a year ago. It’s likely the junior will once again threaten for a spot in St. Paul, Minnesota in this year’s NCGA championships.

Ruggiero and Roe should be at the forefront of the Bears’ regional squad this coming weekend. But the team’s depth has stood out as well. Sydney Schreiber ‘26 has come out strong this year, performing especially well this weekend on the bars. The junior’s score of 9.75 placed second on the vault, tying Roe’s own score. Seniors Erin Stubbs, Madison Zimmerman, and Megan Matteucci all have developed as great contributors as well, scoring season bests in the quad meet this past weekend. That’s without mentioning the various underclassmen who have made a difference; Mikaela Duffy ‘28 has placed highly at multiple meets this year in just her rookie season, Lucy Warburton ‘27 has consistently given the Bears a spark on the beam, among plenty of others. On top of two of the best competitors in the NCGA, Ursinus should have the team to pack a punch this spring.

With just a week left until NCGA Regionals, the pressure is on for Ursinus. But through strong performances from top to bottom, the Bears have no reason to fear heading into Brockport, NY to compete. With strength in numbers, expect the team to roar as they take on the east coast region this Saturday.
