As spring begins to flourish with fresh vibes and vibrant colors, so does Ritter Hall, the home of the Media and Communications and Arts Departments at Ursinus College. Over spring break and the preceding weeks, the building was given a series of updates enhancing the overall aesthetic of the space and making it a more functional spot for studying.

The renovations actually started months ago with Room 141. What was once a room with two doors is now a space with only one entrance. The most shocking update for everyone was the addition of the bright yellow accent wall – always a topic of conversation in that classroom, bringing energy to the space.

Over spring break, the majority of the renovations focused on the lobby, and I have to say – it’s definitely giving Ursinus. As soon as you walk in the main entrance, you are welcomed by a huge new wall design. “Open to lead. Open to create. Open to explore.” To the left, what used to be the couch area has been replaced with a high-top study table, perfect for collaborative work. To the right, a new seating area features oval-shaped swivel chairs.

I think that all of the updates, even the ones that go unnoticed – like the fresh new paint and carpets – make such a huge difference to the space. Despite Ursinus allocating significant funds toward other departments, the fresh coat of paint and thoughtful updates to this space prove that even small changes do make a difference.

The updates mark efforts to make Ritter Hall a functional and aesthetically engaging common area and workspace for MCS and Art students. With
a mix of practical changes and design enhancements, the building continues to evolve into a space that best serves the creative community here at Ursinus.
