Attention student athletes! The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) would like to remind everyone about the annual holiday food drive ending soon. With 1,815 lbs. of food donated last year, the new goal for the current year is a whopping 2,000 lbs.! If you haven’t had the opportunity to donate yet, or you want to bring up the numbers for your team, make sure you take the time to grab some non-perishables before the deadline: Tuesday, December 10th.
For those unfamiliar with how the drive operates, each sports team is responsible for obtaining a designated donation box. SAAC reps from each team are typically in charge of gathering and managing this box, though many upperclassmen are familiar with the process as well. For each team, a goal of 77 lbs. is expected, with co-ed teams having a slightly higher goal of 154 lbs. Once the box has enough donations from the teams, SAAC reps will take the box to the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Collegeville, one of the best ways for the Ursinus Athletic Department to give back to the community!
Furthermore, donations do not just have to be non-perishables – they can be personal care items (such as soap, toothpaste, feminine products, etc.), or supplies for babies and pets (such as food, toys, clothes, etc.). And, donations don’t have to come only from student athletes! Coaches can participate by adding to their teams’ boxes, and any non-coach athletic staff members can add to a designated box in the Coaches Row. If you are interested in donating as a non-student athlete, consider reaching out to any student athletes you may know to add to their box – the gesture is still greatly appreciated!
Donated boxes must meet the December 10th deadline, and after each team drops off their box, make sure to let SAAC President Rachel Hartman ’25 know! If there is any confusion or concerns regarding the ongoing drive, feel free to reach out to SAAC Advisor Marqus Hunter, Hartman, or any of the E-board for clarification. SAAC looks forward to crushing the goal of 2,000 lbs. this year, and it all starts with you! Happy holidays, and go bears!
