Seen the Zine?

If you have seen the rainbow posters around campus and you are wondering what a zine is, wonder no longer. Zine is short for magazine, and a zine is typically shorter than a standard magazine and tends to be about one particular topic. The Zine on campus is a project that started with an assignment in a poetry class. Its two leaders are Amber Leech ‘27 and Andrew Mihniak ‘27.

The two came together to make a literary zine focused on queer artists on campus. They explain that they wanted to uplift queer artists and give them a place to express themselves and be showcased in a creative and welcoming space.

Leech and Mikniak are excited to see the different ways of writing and the creative ideas people submit, but even more they are excited to share their project with the greater campus community.

If this project reminds you of The Lantern, you are not mistaken! The staff of The Lantern have also been promoting the Zine, and if you read the posters, they encouraged those who might have missed The Lantern’s deadline to submit arts and/or written pieces to their Zine.

At this point, however, the deadline for the Zine is closed, but that means we get to see a finished Zine sooner and it gives artists a second chance to get their art out. I think that the Zine is a wonderful project and I’m very excited to see how it turns out. Keep an eye out for the Zine so you can show your support for both the artists and the curators.
