As the semester comes to an end and the holiday season approaches, the Ursinus College Wind Ensemble will have its final performance of the semester on December 6th. Come and enjoy an evening of winter classics to get you into the holiday spirit!

The Ursinus Wind Ensemble is one of the six ensembles on campus and is directed by Professor Harry Oehler. Similar to our Jazz Ensemble on campus, the Ursinus Wind Ensemble is made up of dedicated community members as well as students! One student, Abigail Baron ’27, has been in the ensemble for two years. “I joined because I knew after high school I wanted to learn more and improve so I joined. I play trumpet and I have been playing it for 11 years now,” she stated. “Having the community members and the staff perform alongside us is always heartwarming because every day we have more people. It warms my heart to see how connected the community is.”

This upcoming concert isn’t the group’s first performance of the semester. The week of Halloween, it performed at the Berman and played Halloween tunes as well as classic movie soundtracks. The members of the ensemble were dressed up and performed songs as people enjoyed the museum. Baron said that “performing in the Berman was amazing. I have never seen so many people committed to standing and staying to watch us perform for so long. I thought it was so nice of the administration to invite us there to perform and then to invite us back next year as well.” The ensemble is very active on campus and brings together students of all majors together through music!

This semester, the Wind Ensemble also performed at the String Ensemble’s winter concert. They joined the String Ensemble for two songs, and the favor is being returned! In the second half of Wind Ensemble’s upcoming winter concert, the String Ensemble will join them on stage and perform some holiday classics together! Abby Myren ’26, a member of the String Ensemble said, “It’s sort of less pressure because you can’t really hear the strings as well over the band but it’s also really fun because I’m not used to playing with a band. It’s a different experience and a fuller sound.” Myren has been in the String Ensemble since she started at Ursinus and has been playing the violin for 10 years! “I’ve always played and I find it very relaxing, it’s a fun hobby that I wanted to continue into college,” she explained. The two groups have a history of performing together because the two ensembles performed together at graduation last year. If you missed the String Ensemble performance this semester, don’t fret – you can see them at the Wind Ensembles concert!

Join the Wind Ensemble on Friday December 6th at 7:30pm and enjoy the music made by your peers and community! The performance is in Bomberger Auditorium and is free for all!
