Ursinus Track Gears Up For Champs

The men and women’s track team competed recently at the historic Penn Relays down at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

The men’s team put in a solid time in the 4x400m at 3:25:83 to take 7th, while the ladies took down school records in the 4×400 and 4×100. The women’s 4×400 relay consisting of Sophia Pascale ‘29, Kaelin Ryan ‘26, Bauroth-Sherman ‘26 and Miller ‘26 finished at 3:57:33 to take the silver, and the 4×100 put in at time of 47:46 to finish 17th overall.

The men’s team came into the spring as runners-up in the Centennial Conference Championships once again with the help of strong performances in the field events. The team has been led by thrower Noah Sanders ‘27 and Pole Vaulter Mitchell Davis ‘27, who have continued to put in personal bests this season.

Sanders currently ranks 1st for the Hammer throw in the Centennial Conference with his mark of 55.29 meters, which was set last weekend.

Davis ranks number one in all of Division III, after clearing the bar at 5.28 meters. That performance puts him second on the all-time Centennial Conference leaderboard in pole vault.

Photo Credit: Ross Richards Centennial Conference in the 400m, with a time of 56.24 that she ran at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic in the beginning of April. The time ties her for 19th in Division III. remained a strong presence for the Bears. Tobin sits third in the conference for the 200 meter with his time of 21.37 and anchors the men’s 4 x 100 relay, which also currently ranks first in the conference.

Heading into the Centennial Conference Championships next weekend, the men’s team will be hoping to repeat their success from last year’s second place finish. The Bears won three consecutive conference championships prior to last season. However, it looks like Ursinus may be seriously challenged this year. Rival Johns Hopkins will be tough to beat, given their depth in the distance events. We’ll see if the Bears can shock the conference by giving the Blue Jays a challenge.

The women’s team has once again been led by senior runner Ryan.The sprinter recently broke another school record in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 14.37 at the Paul Donahue Invitational. The time snatched the record in the event from Ursinus Hall of Famer Victoria Goodenough.This is Ryan’s 3rd individual school record, and the time ranks her 1st in the conference and 19th in all of Division III.

Pascale has also continued to impress in her debut outdoor season, breaking the school record in the 200m with a time of 24.94. Pascale leads the In the field, the Bears have had some solid showings from their jumpers Maddie Lippay ‘27, and Samantha Wechsler ‘27.

Lippay has put in several personal bests this year, sitting at a mark of 1.50 meters which she set at the Denis Craddock Coachers Classic. Wechsler has also delivered for Ursinus, setting a mark of 11.34 meters in the triple jump, which ranks her first in the conference by a decent margin.

The women’s team is coming off of a strong indoor season where they placed 2nd at the Centennial Conference Championships – their highest placement in program history – thanks to the help of record-breaking individual performances from their runners. This year, they will have a strong chance at improving on their 4th place outdoor f inish from last season, if they can score some more personal bests in their championship meet.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action next weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
