The Ursinus College Golf team had a very interesting and enthusiastic tournament at the Spartan Invitational. Despite not having the best first day, they were able to significantly pick up where they fell behind on the second and third day to finish 13th in the overall team standings.
Kyle Quagliero, who contributed to this comeback, says that even when the team was not doing its best, he and his teammates were able to stay as positive as possible for the rest of the invitational.
“My 75 was nice because I started out very poorly both days but stayed optimistic the whole time and grinded it out.” Quagliero then explained how one of his other teammates was able to be a positive influence that helped lead the team to a higher ranking, “I believe our team has been greatly influenced by one of our players, Liam Bradley, since he’s a very positive person and always optimistic.”
Senior Brian Barrett spoke about a few team goals for the remainder of the season. “I think a good team goal would be top 3 at conferences. For us to accomplish our team goals we definitely need to focus on peaking at the right time.”
With this in mind, he then reflected on past mistakes during previous seasons that he hopes the team will be able to correct this year.
“Last year our fall season was good, but the spring went the other way. If we can somehow flip that script, we will be in good shape. Staying optimistic, trusting our abilities, and training over winter break will be key to a successful spring” states Barrett.
In addition to Barrett speaking about some team goals, senior Ryan Hodgdon had a few things to add to the list, including, “Break 320consistently and play better against conference teams” and “Top 6 in conference.”
With hopes that these goals will get the Ursinus College Golf Team up and running, we wish them the best of luck in their fall season. Go Bears!
