Robert Brett Johnson is a student athlete on the football team who made his presence known around campus. By being an outgoing and sincerely nice person, he has made the most of his experience at Ursinus. I sat down with Brett to hear his reflection on his college career.
How would you describe your overall experience here on the football team?
“Being on the Football team at Ursinus has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I feel grateful for the personal development the program has allowed me to experience, while playing the game that has been an extremely important piece of my life up to this point.”
Missing out on a full season with the Covid-19 pandemic, how was it to end your career with a full season?
“It meant the world to me to be able to play out one last full season. Missing my junior season was a very difficult experience… Especially after the uncertainty COVID-19 brought along, it means the world to me to be able to end my playing career on my own terms.”
What was the most rewarding part of your four years on the football team?
“The most rewarding part of my experience was the development of relationships with my teammates from freshman year to now. I know I am walking away from the football program with some of my best friends by my side, and that is something I will be able to carry along with me for the rest of my life.”
What have you learned from your time on the football team that will best prepare you for life after Ursinus?
“Time management for sure. Being a student-athlete throughout college taught me how to manage my time effectively on and off the field. Furthermore, playing a game that is as demanding as football taught me to prioritize my physical and mental health, which is something that I am very thankful for. The work ethic I have developed as a member of the Ursinus Football team is something I look forward to applying to my future prospects.”
What’s your biggest regret (if any) when reflecting on your college football days?
“I can confidently say that I do not have any regrets looking back at my time as a student-athlete at Ursinus. That’s all thanks to my teammates and coaches that have made this experience so rewarding in the end.”
What will you miss most about football at Ursinus?
“Definitely the guys. At the end of the day football is all about the relationships you develop with your teammates because it’s the ultimate team game. It’s a great feeling to know I will have such great memories and relationships with me for the rest of my life.”
What are you most excited about in the world that awaits you after graduation?
“I’m looking forward to utilizing all the skills and lessons I have learned as a student-athlete out in the real world. I feel like my four years at Ursinus have prepared me exceptionally for my life outside of football and school.”
After speaking with Brett it was clear to me that he truly loved his experience here at Ursinus College and enjoyed his role as a part of the football program. On and off the football field, Brett excelled at embracing whatever came his way. Whether it was making friends, bonding with teachers, or building brotherhoods on the field, he crushed it. As a fellow senior and lucky to have been called a friend of Brett’s, I can speak for those who know him and say that he will do great things. Good luck Brett!
