We may be in March folks, but the winter athletic season has yet to come to a close for a handful of our Ursinus College Bears. In particular, there are 11 winter athletes who are still competing in post- season NCAA Tournament Play across
3 respective sports. Namely, Men’s and Women’s Wrestling, Track and Field, and Gymnastics. In this weeks edition of the Grizzly we will be looking to shoutout the individual post-season performances from some of our Bears.
Starting off with Track and Field: Aiden Tobin and Rainah Dunham competed in the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8th and 9th. Tobin competed in the men’s 200m and placed 19th. Meanwhile Dunham, put Ursinus College on the map with two 7th place finishes in the long-jump and triple jump respectively. Achieving All-American Status in both events.
Ursinus Gymnastics will be hosting the NCGA National Championships on March 23rd and we have two Bears competing on this stage only two weeks from now. Sophomore Kylie Ruggerio scored an outstanding 9.825 on the bars at Regionals in order to qualify for the final home meet of the year. All the while first-year Erin Roe had an impressive performance of her own at Regionals on the vault scoring 9.750 to clinch her own spot in Collegeville Next Saturday.
Men’s and Women’s Wrestling continue their historic success thanks to Senior, Shawn Marchesano (In Photo), and three first years: Cloe Charlesworth; Emma Matera; and Max Borton. Marchesano and Borton will be heading to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Friday March 15th
after placing third in the 165lbs and 184lbs weight classes at Regionals. Additionally, Charlesworth and Matera competed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this past weekend in the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships. Unfortunately, both wrestlers were unable to come out of the torunament with a top
finish, but their valiant efforts earned them 5th and 6th placements in the NWCA Regional Rankings.
