The Escape Velocity Dance Company presents their fall show, EVE! They will have three performances: Friday, December 1st at 7pm and Saturday, December 2nd at 2pm and 7pm in the Black Box Theater.

Escape Velocity is Ursinus College’s student-run dance company where students have complete control over the show, including music and choreography. The students work together to create a common theme. “The show this semester is called ‘EVE’ and is inspired by the idea of a magical night especially as we get closer to the holidays,” says a representative of the Escape Velocity Executive Board.

A lot of hard work has gone into the preparation of this show! “In the beginning of the semester, we have an interest meeting, choreographer sign-ups, and auditions, we send this out to the whole school. From there we have weekly one-hour rehearsals until our tech week right before our show,” says the board representative. As a student-run company, Escape Velocity fosters a collaborative community to choreograph the dances and create a cohesive performance. When asked about their favorite part of creating a production solely with their fellow classmates, an EV executive board representative said, “My favorite part is the first run through and seeing all the wonderful dances come together. All of our choreographers, executive board members, and dancers work extremely hard all semester, so it is very fulfilling seeing it all come together.”

Escape Velocity works to create a variety of different dance styles and to showcase as much talent as possible. “There are amazing pieces in this show. We have contemporary, hip-hop, tap, jazz, and whacking. There are really fun themes to these dances that are going to make the audience get up and join in on the fun,” says the EV exec board. “I’m really excited that there are so many Taylor Swift songs being danced to this year!” says Trinity Hardy ’26. This is Hardy’s first semester dancing with Escape Velocity and she says, “I think that it’s really nice working with student choreographers because they are very understanding. They are on your level as peers which is great! They are willing to work with everybody and they are also funny. Like you can laugh at their jokes, and they laugh at yours. It’s a nice community that is really welcoming!”

Escape Velocity works with students of all skill levels, so don’t let inexperience deter you from joining! “We are a welcoming, creative, and supportive community that shares the love of dance no matter our background or experience. Be on the lookout in your emails because we have an interest meeting in the beginning of each semester,” says the Escape Velocity executive board representative.

Come see the Escape Velocity fall show to support the original work of your fellow classmates and to share the joy with these talented dancers! For those interested in attending, tickets are $5 for students and $7 for general admission. Tickets are available for purchase online. Congratulations to the dancers of the Escape Velocity Dance Company on all the hard work you put into this semester!
